Eaton Fire

On January 7, 2025, Los Angeles experienced a series of devastating wildfires that swept through Los Angeles County, marking one of the most destructive wildfire events.

The fires, fueled by the severe drought, dry vegetation, and Santa Ana winds reaching up to 100 mph, resulted in significant loss of life, evacuations, and massive home destruction. A total of 30 people lost their lives, more than 18,000 structures were destroyed or damaged, mostly homes, 57,000 acres were burned, and 200,000 people were under evacuation orders.

The Eaton Fire quickly engulfed the foothills of the Altadena community and nearby regions. It ignited in the evening at the intersection of Altadena Drive and Midwick Drive, leaving residents with just moments to flee the approaching flames for their safety.

The weather conditions impeded the emergency response to the area and disoriented residents due to communication delays.

The local government, community, and social media influencers responded immediately to the call and assisted in establishing disaster recovery centers, where food, water, and clothing were provided.

The city of Los Angeles and the county continue to provide financial aid and support rebuilding efforts through various centers.

The blaze was fully contained after 24 days of destruction, on January 31, 2025.
