Community organizers and union labor members in Los Angeles packed the historic Wiltern Theater in Koreatown on Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2026. Approximately 2000 people attended the event to hear the independent Senator from Vermont speak about the proposed tax on California’s wealthiest billionaires.

The proposed measure and the official kickoff of a ballot initiative, supported by SEIU-United Healthcare Workers West and United Here, Local 11, to tax the “oligarchy” class in California. According to the initiative, billionaires' tax contributions will prevent the collapse of California’s health care system and ensure that California families receive the health care they need, following recent massive federal funding cuts.
