UTLA and union workers from Local 99 organized the protest in Downtown Los Angeles on March 15, 2025, to oppose Trump administration policies. Demonstrators gathered at City Hall's stairs to voice their opposition to what they saw as the destruction of the protection of citizens and immigrant communities. Assemblymember Sade Elhawary of District 57 in South Central Los Angeles was one of the speakers at the event, which excited the crowd.
“We must be in solidarity, and when they continue to attack us when we are under attack, what do we do? “Stand Up and fight back,” she said. When immigrants are under attack, what do we do? Stand up and fight back? When our schools and students are under attack, what do we do? Stand back and fight back. When a trans community is under attack, what do we do? Stand up and fight back. When workers are under attack, what do we do? Stand up and fight back.
“And we will not allow them to continue pushing us down. We are in a crisis, but we will fight, we will fight together, and that's what we're here for, so let's go; let's make it happen. Thank you, thank you for being here. Let's make it happen,” Assemblymember said.
Another speaker of the Day was Cecil Myart-Cruz, UTLA President, who marched along with other local government representatives like City Council Hugo Soto-Martinez. “There have been attacks on education, immigration, the LGBTQ plus, women's rights, and we know that the wages are too low, and the rent is too damn high,” said UTLA President.
