Hundreds of Students Walked Out to Join a Peaceful Protest in Downtown Los Angeles.

Students from various high schools in the Los Angeles Unified School District marched to voice their concerns about immigration policies and ICE raids.

High school students from Garfield HS, Roosevelt HS, Wilson HS, and Bravo HS in the East Los Angeles area. The current ICE raids on the Mexican American community and immigration policies of the Trump administration sparked the walkout.

The walkout replicated the iconic 1968 Chicano students who walked out of North and East Los Angeles classrooms. The student movement demanded respect, dignity, and a better future. They faced police brutality and challenged the systemic racism and discrimination that sparked similar movements across the nation.

Students coordinated on social media to start their walkout at 10:30 A.M. This event surprised school administrators. Within minutes, hundreds of students marched towards Mariachi Plaza in Boyle Heights, where they gathered with students from other high schools to march together to City Hall.

The students protested throughout the week, and by Friday, students from high schools in Los Angeles and surrounding areas, such as Santa Monica and Pasadena, had walked out of class to join the demonstration.
